WILLEMSTAD - The more than ten-kilometer-long Schottegatweg was responsible for 868 accidents in 2023, making it the road with the highest number of accidents in Curaçao last year. This road tops the list of the 20 roads on the island where accidents occurred (3,858).
The top 20 roads account for nearly 35 percent of the over eleven thousand accidents on the island. These figures come from the accident registry of Forensys, which acts on behalf of all insurers in Curaçao.
The Schottegatweg is divided into four segments in these statistics: north, east, south, and west. Schottegatweg-North had the most accidents on the ring road in 2023, with 311 accidents.
The nearly thirteen-kilometer-long Caracasbaaiweg leads the list with 422 accidents, followed by the nearly seven-kilometer-long FD Rooseveltweg with 390 accidents, and the three-kilometer-long Winston Churchillweg with 308 reported accidents.
Whether these roads are the least safe in Curaçao cannot be concluded based on Forensys's figures alone. Additional data, such as the annual vehicle mileage on these roads, is needed to determine safety.
