More wind and higher temperatures in august compared to the previous year

WILLEMSTAD - Average temperatures and wind speeds were higher in August this year compared to the same month last year, while rainfall levels were lower, according to the Meteorological Department of Curaçao, which shared the findings on Wednesday. 

In August 2024, the average temperature was 30.2 degrees Celsius, compared to 29.9 degrees Celsius in August 2023. In both years, the average temperature was above the 'normal' temperature of 29.1 degrees Celsius. 

Wind speeds were also higher this August, averaging 11 knots in 2024, compared to 9 knots in 2023. The typical average wind speed is 11 knots. Additionally, less rainfall was recorded this year, with an average of 11.9 millimeters in August 2024, down from 21.2 millimeters in 2023. The normal average for August ranges between 17 millimeters and 27.8 millimeters.
