WILLEMSTAD – The CMC (Curaçao Medical Center) reported an increase in fireworks-related injuries during this holiday season, with more cases than in previous years. A total of twelve people visited the Emergency Room (ER), three of whom had to be admitted to the hospital.
The hospital did not provide a specific explanation for the higher number of injuries compared to previous years. Of the twelve, six sustained injuries to their hands and four to their faces. Some victims had injuries to multiple body parts.
The youngest fireworks victim is an 11-year-old, who was admitted to the hospital. Even younger, a child aged 1 year and 2 months was admitted with a burn injury caused by heat. The count of fireworks injuries was tracked from December 24 to January 1.
