Monument Care Launches First Steps Toward Heritage Experience Center at Landhuis Jan Kok

Local, | By Press release May 8, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Stichting Monumentenzorg Curaçao has taken the first steps toward the development of a new Heritage Experience Center at Landhuis Jan Kok and is now seeking a creative food and beverage entrepreneur to develop a new restaurant concept at the historic site.

The future restaurant, scheduled to open in early 2027, will form part of the broader Heritage Experience Center planned for the Bandabou region of Curaçao.

Landhuis Jan Kok, managed by Monumentenzorg, is set to receive a new purpose after housing the Nena Sanchez gallery for more than 25 years. The foundation says the transition aligns with its mission to promote awareness and education about built heritage through an interactive discovery center aimed at young people.

As part of the project, Monumentenzorg is looking for an entrepreneur with a distinctive and accessible hospitality vision that reflects the character of Bandabou and Curaçao.

According to Monumentenzorg director Maghalie van der Bunt-George, the foundation envisions a family-friendly restaurant concept where local ingredients, traditions, and culture are transformed into a unique modern visitor experience.

The location offers room for a broad range of concepts, from an innovative outdoor dining experience to a contemporary interpretation of a traditional plantation house restaurant. Both experienced hospitality operators and emerging talent with strong ideas are invited to apply.

Located near Sint Willibrordus, Landhuis Jan Kok overlooks the salt flats of Rif Sint Marie, home to the island’s iconic flamingos and one of Curaçao’s most recognizable natural landscapes.

Monumentenzorg has owned the plantation, plantation house, and surrounding salt flats since 1999 and has worked to preserve the area’s cultural and natural heritage.

The Heritage Experience Center is also being developed in collaboration with CARMABI as part of a broader vision for the surrounding Seru Largu National Park area.

The aim is to create a destination where both local and international visitors can experience Curaçao’s cultural, architectural, and natural heritage in a meaningful way.

To provide more information to interested food and beverage entrepreneurs, Monumentenzorg will host an information session on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at its offices on Scharlooweg 13.

Registration for the session is mandatory and can be completed via the foundation’s official communication channels.
