Molds used by FKP for building houses are 5 cm too short

Local | By Correspondent April 5, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The government foundation Fundashon Kas Popular has been using prefab molds for the construction of houses that are 5 centimeters too short for years. As a result, many houses built by the government foundation in recent years do not meet the legal standard of 2.60 meters in height. The issue with the undersized molds was already known internally, but no measures were taken to address it. FKP is currently building 204 apartments in Tera Kòrá using these incorrect molds.

The misconduct in construction came to light when consultancy firm SBTNO recently published correspondence regarding the dismissal of FKP's financial director, Peter Bongers. The issue is cited as one of the reasons for his dismissal. However, Bongers claims he is not to blame for the case of the undersized molds. He says that the FKP Supervisory Board investigated the matter but did not act thoroughly afterward.
