Miss Universe Curaçao 2025 Presents Emotional Well-Being and Protection Act to Minister of Justice

WILLEMSTAD - Today marked a historic and heartfelt moment for Curaçao. Miss Universe Curaçao 2025, Camille Thomas, officially presented the “Emotional Well-Being and Protection Act” to Minister of Justice, Mr. Shalten Hato.

The proposal inspired by Camille’s global initiative for emotional health and protection — seeks to formally recognize emotional abuse as a form of violence and promote emotional well-being as a human right within Curaçao’s legal and social framework.

“We protect people from physical harm, but we must also protect the heart and mind,” said Camille Thomas during the handover. “Today, Curaçao takes the first step in acknowledging emotional pain as real harm — and in giving our people the voice and protection they deserve.”

The act’s development received valuable support from Murray Attorneys at Law, whose legal guidance helped frame the proposal into actionable policy language aligned with Curaçao’s legal system. Camille expressed her sincere gratitude to the firm for their collaboration and commitment to justice and human well-being.

The presentation follows the public launch of the initiative earlier this month, where Camille unveiled her vision to make emotional literacy and protection an integral part of education, workplaces, and communities.

Through her Beyond the Crown Initiative, she continues to raise funds for The Child First Foundation, which empowers over 150 children across Curaçao through emotional development programs.

“This law is more than paper,” Camille noted. “It’s a promise — that Curaçao believes in empathy, dignity, and the right to emotional safety.”

The next step of the initiative will be to align the Emotional Well-Being and Protection Act with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ultimately present it at the United Nations level. This forward-looking effort underscores that Curaçao’s mission extends beyond its borders — aiming to inspire global policy change and position the island as a voice for emotional justice and human-centered development worldwide.

As Camille prepares to represent Curaçao at the 74th Miss Universe Competition, which will take place on Friday, November 21, 2025, in Bangkok, Thailand, she carries this legislative milestone as a symbol of how a small island can lead a global conversation about emotional well-being.
