Ministers Agree to Strengthen Teacher Training and Language Support

Local, | By Correspondent February 6, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – At the 2025 Four-Country Education Meeting, ministers reaffirmed their commitment to improving teacher quality and addressing language challenges that affect students across the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.

The Kibrahacha partnership — a teacher education and professionalisation programme active on Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire — received renewed support, with plans to extend its methods and reach on other islands. Ministers emphasised that teacher training tailored to Caribbean cultural and linguistic contexts is essential for improving learning outcomes.

Additionally, the network for Dutch as a Second Language (Nederlands als Vreemde Taal / NVT) is being enhanced to support multilingual classrooms — recognising that Dutch is often a second or foreign language for students in Curaçao and other islands. Work in 2026 will focus on better materials, teacher training and approaches that reflect local language realities.
