Minister won't be installing air conditioning in every classroom for now

Local | By Correspondent September 8, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Minister Sithree Heydoorn currently has no plans to fulfill the request of the education union DOEN to install air conditioning in every classroom. This can be inferred from a press release in which the minister discusses matters with Aqualectra.

He does, however, intend to take measures to alleviate the heat in schools, but these measures currently focus on the existing electrical and insulation systems in school buildings.

In 2015, the government began installing solar panels in selected schools, including those of Amador Nita vocational school, Sint Paules vocational school, Juan Pablo Duarte vocational school, RK-MTS, Goslinga vocational school, and Sint Jozef vocational school.

Currently, the government is working closely with Aqualectra to develop a structured plan for the installation of efficient and sustainable ventilation systems in schools. These measures are intended to provide a lasting solution to the heat-related challenges faced by students in various schools.

Additionally, an inventory is being conducted of the electrical networks and insulation in school classrooms to improve conditions and reduce the impact of the heat.
