WILLEMSTAD – Minister of Finance Javier Silvania has provided a detailed response to questions posed by Giselle Mc William, leader of the MAN faction, regarding subsidies granted by the minister in recent months.
Silvania expressed surprise at Mc William’s sudden concerns over the issue, pointing out that the government coalition of MAN, PAR, and PIN between 2017 and 2021 "systematically failed to implement responsible financial policies." He referred to Mc William’s concerns as "so-called worries," suggesting that they were more of a political attack than a genuine concern for the welfare of the people.
In late February, Mc William had raised questions about several subsidies approved by Silvania. She emphasized the importance of the Staten's budgetary rights and argued that the government was bypassing these rights with its recent actions.
Silvania’s response highlighted the political nature of Mc William's concerns while defending the government's decisions. The exchange has sparked a renewed debate over transparency and financial accountability in the current administration.
