WILLEMSTAD - The Minister of Finance, Javier Silvania, has come under fire from both ruling and opposition parties for his handling of the General Audit Chamber Curaçao's (ARC) report on the government's 2022 financial statements.
In a recent development, Silvania took to social media, especially his popular Facebook account to announce his intention to request the immediate withdrawal of the ARC's report. This move has sparked widespread criticism from political circles, with members of the ruling party PNP and opposition parties PAR and MAN voicing their disapproval.
During discussions surrounding a draft law aimed at amending the National Ordinance Advisory Council (RvA), parliamentary factions seized the opportunity to express their concerns over Silvania's actions. Notably, Fergino Brownbill, a colleague from Silvania's own MFK party, suggested inviting the Minister to present his perspective on the matter.
The ARC's decision to withhold approval of the government's 2022 financial statements was based on identified significant errors and uncertainties. Moreover, the ARC emphasized that the government's financial management remains deficient, casting doubt on the accuracy and completeness of the financial picture presented in the statements.
