WILLEMSTAD - Minister of Finance Javier Silvania needs more time to finalize the budget for the upcoming political year. The negotiations with the Netherlands regarding several loans that Curaçao might consider taking out are the reason for the request for an extension.
According to the minister, the Netherlands is willing to lend money to Curaçao only under certain conditions. Additionally, it's necessary to determine the interest rates on the borrowed amount. Talks on these matters are currently ongoing. Once this is clarified, the minister can prepare and submit the budget.
Other significant points that might be included in the budget are the loans related to the Ennia case and the repayment of the liquidity support that Curaçao received during the COVID-19 pandemic.
