WILLEMSTAD - Minister of Public Health Roderick Middelhof held his first official meeting this week with the Board of Directors and management team of the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC). During the session, the minister received a detailed briefing on the hospital’s most urgent challenges and expressed full understanding of the difficulties CMC is currently facing.

Minister Middelhof reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening Curaçao’s entire healthcare chain—from prevention and primary care to specialized hospital services and even tertiary care—within the financial and structural capacities of the government.

The hospital’s financial situation was the central topic of discussion, leading to the identification of several urgent action points that require immediate attention. The meeting also covered the restructuring of CMC’s Real Estate division and the next steps in the ongoing LNT process.

According to both parties, trust between the Ministry of Public Health, Environment and Nature (GMN) and CMC has now been restored. They agreed on implementing a more intensive and structured collaboration going forward.

The minister also emphasized the importance of long-term investment in preventive healthcare, stressing that prevention must become a central pillar of Curaçao’s health system in order to reduce pressure on emergency and hospital services.

Further meetings between GMN and CMC are planned as both entities work toward stabilizing hospital operations and improving healthcare delivery across the island.
