Minister Middelhof Explores Fruit and Vegetable Imports from Dominican Republic

WILLEMSTAD Minister of Economic Development, Roderick Middelhof, recently visited the floating market in Punda together with the export representative of the Dominican Republic. The visit aimed to explore possibilities for importing fruits and vegetables from the Dominican Republic as supply pressures from Venezuela continue.

Minister Middelhof emphasized that the government will always safeguard the island’s food security. “The well-being of our citizens comes first. We are working to diversify our sources of imports to ensure that every household has enough to eat, without depending on just one market,” the minister said.

The discussions with the Dominican Republic open the door to closer cooperation in agriculture and trade. This initiative could not only strengthen Curaçao’s food supply chain but also create new opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

With this effort, Minister Middelhof underscored that the government is taking swift action and that the interests of Curaçao’s residents remain its top priority.
