WILLEMSTAD – Minister responsible for Telecommunications Charles Cooper is representing Curaçao at CANTO in the Dominican Republic, one of the Caribbean region’s leading annual conferences on telecommunications, technology and digital innovation.
The conference, being held in Punta Cana, brings together government officials and representatives from the telecommunications and technology sectors to discuss developments shaping the Caribbean’s digital future.
As part of the conference, Cooper participated in a high-level meeting with fellow ministers from across the region. Discussions focused on issues including connectivity, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
According to Cooper, Curaçao’s participation is important because technological developments increasingly influence economic and social opportunities throughout the Caribbean.
The minister said the conference provides Curaçao with an opportunity to exchange experiences with other countries, strengthen regional cooperation and explore how technology can be used to create new opportunities for the population.
Connectivity remains an important issue for Caribbean islands, where reliable telecommunications infrastructure is increasingly essential for economic development, government services, education and business.
Artificial intelligence and cybersecurity have also become more prominent on regional agendas as governments and businesses increasingly depend on digital systems and online services.
Curaçao’s participation at CANTO gives the island an opportunity to remain involved in regional discussions on these developments and explore potential cooperation with other Caribbean countries and industry partners.
The conference in Punta Cana continues through Wednesday, August 12.
