WILLEMSTAD - Minister Charles Cooper intends to reclaim a strip of land along the coast of Pietermaai, measuring 15 to 20 meters wide. The Minister of Traffic, Transportation, and Spatial Planning aims to extend the coastline from Marichi to Pen Resort. The widening of the coastline is intended for coastal reinforcement, but Cooper also plans to construct a boulevard spanning approximately 700 meters.
Currently, several buildings along the coast from Marichi to Pietermaai are affected by seawater encroaching up to the structures, the minister explains. He believes this is detrimental to the foundations of these buildings. Cooper wants to offer property owners the opportunity to reclaim land. However, this would require going through the regular permit procedure, according to Cooper.
