Minister Cooper Leads Initiative to Build 426 Social Houses for People of Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent April 26, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - In a move that signals a significant development in the provision of affordable housing in Curaçao, Minister Charles Cooper has issued three construction permits to the Social Housing Foundation (FKP) in partnership with the Urban Planning Service (ROP). The permits will enable the construction of 426 social houses across three neighborhoods, with a total of 11 buildings to be constructed in Tera Kòrá, 10 buildings in Sapaté, and 14 buildings in Fortuna Ariba. This marks a milestone in housing development, as the number of houses to be built has not been seen in the last decade.

The need for affordable housing in the area is apparent, and the development of social housing will provide relief to those on the long waiting list for FKP housing. Speaking on the project, Minister Cooper emphasized the importance of this initiative in providing economic benefits to the island while also meeting the housing needs of the community.

Minister Cooper has expressed his satisfaction with the progress made thus far and extended his best wishes to FKP during the construction phase. For those seeking more information on each specific project, FKP can be contacted directly.

This initiative is a significant step towards addressing the housing needs of the community and will undoubtedly improve the quality of life for many Curaçaoans.
