Minister Charles Cooper's speech at the start of works on the windmill park in Koraal Tabak

Local | By Press release February 16, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - With pleasure, today marks the commencement of construction works for the windmill park here in Koraal Tabak. Our Ministry of Traffic, Transportation, and Urban Planning (VVRP) is involved in many aspects of this significant development.

An essential aspect is the issuance of the necessary permits, both for the construction of the park itself and the grid that connects to the park. In this way, we facilitate investments and ensure that they align with the government's vision. On the other hand, we must also ensure the efficient use of the land and, importantly, conserve our natural environment.

Curaçao is part of the world, and just like everywhere else, we feel the changes occurring globally. We have the responsibility to contribute to reducing climate change impacting the world by reducing our carbon emissions. Our ministry leads these efforts in Curaçao through our meteorological services.

Finally, the Bureau of Telecommunications and Post (BTP) is the entity responsible for calculating electricity and water tariffs. As such, our ministry is involved in various ways to ensure that investments align with the government's vision for sustainable development and responsible planning.

The project we are commencing today adheres to the government's vision, making us more resilient, sustainable, and economically connected. It also contributes to reducing our carbon emissions, meaning better air quality. Additionally, this development will ultimately have a positive impact on the electricity tariffs for the people.

I would like to congratulate Aqualectra, NuCapital, and Aspiravi on this significant development. You can count on my and the Ministry of VVRP's support for the progress of Curaçao.
