WILLEMSTAD - Minister Charles Cooper, together with his delegation, met with the Colombian Banking Association and the company Amarilo in Colombia. Mr. Jonathan Malagon, President of the Colombian Banking Association (and former Minister of Housing in Colombia), gave a presentation on social housing from a banking perspective. Colombia is ranked as the number one country in terms of social housing sales according to the United Nations. The "Mi Casa Ya" program has contributed significantly to this achievement.
Minister Cooper also visited and received a presentation from the company Amarilo, one of the largest constructors in South and Central America. Amarilo is part of the VIP group, which focuses on housing for higher-income individuals. Additionally, Amarilo participates in the VIS group, which focuses on social housing. Amarilo also takes part in a subsidy program that allows people to purchase their own social housing.
Minister Cooper received information from various angles regarding Colombia's national program for social housing, which has given Amarilo the guarantee to build thousands of houses. Minister Cooper also received a specific presentation on a project for a new neighborhood called 'Cuidad Verde' with 54,060 inhabitants.
All the gathered information will serve as the basis for concrete housing plans for the people of Curaçao.
