WILLEMSTAD - Minister Charles Cooper has stated that he is sticking to the departure of social housing foundation Fundashon Kas Popular's financial director, Peter Bongers. In doing so, Cooper directly opposes SBTNO, the government's advisory body on corporate governance, which has issued a negative advice on Bongers' departure. Critics accuse Cooper of wanting to get rid of the financial director as quickly as possible and not being open to other options. But according to Cooper, the work relationship with Bongers as FKP's manager has been seriously damaged.
Cooper says that with Bongers at FKP, he cannot implement significant changes in the management of social housing, as parliament wants. For this reason, the minister believes that he can authorize the FKP's Board of Commissioners to allow Bongers to retire as financial director and terminate his contract. According to the minister, Bongers' contract can be terminated at any time without requiring a justification. He accuses Bongers, among other things, of leaking confidential information.
