Minister Beljaarts Engages with Curaçao’s Hydrogen Value Chain Program

WILLEMSTADDuring his visit to Curaçao, Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs Dirk Beljaarts had the opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the development of the island’s hydrogen value chain program.

On April 24, 2025, Minister Beljaarts received an in-depth presentation from Mr. Ramon Chong, Chair of the Offshore Floating Wind Working Group and representative of the Ministry of Economic Development. Mr. Chong provided a detailed overview of the hydrogen value chain initiative, emphasizing its strategic importance for Curaçao.

Earlier in the month, from April 14 to 16, Curaçao hosted a series of meetings involving representatives from the Dutch government, research institutions such as TNO, and private sector stakeholders. This intensive working week focused on defining concrete next steps for the development of the hydrogen value chain—findings that were also shared with Minister Beljaarts.

Minister Beljaarts expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the program, which is the product of close cooperation between the governments of Curaçao and the Netherlands. The initiative began with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in May 2023, followed by a Framework Agreement in May 2024. Both documents lay out a clear roadmap for the future of sustainable energy production on the island.
