WILLEMSTAD – The political party Movementu Futuro Korsou (MFK) has called for a Central Committee meeting following the island-wide power outage of August 27, which left Curaçao without electricity for more than 15 hours.
The party wants both the management of Aqualectra and Prime Minister Gilmar “Pik” Pisas (MFK) to answer questions and provide accountability. “All relevant documents regarding the blackout and policies on electricity supply must be submitted to Parliament,” MFK stated.
According to the party, the outage had serious consequences for education, businesses, households, and the wider economy. Schools were forced to close, businesses shut their doors, and food and medicine spoiled due to lack of refrigeration.
MFK argues that the explanations offered so far by Aqualectra and the government do not provide sufficient clarity and suggests there may be multiple causes that have not yet been disclosed.
The party stressed that a reliable and stable electricity supply is vital for the people of Curaçao and called for greater transparency about the causes of the blackout.
