MFK requests Parliament meeting on issue with voting cards

WILLEMSTAD - With the 2025 elections on the horizon, the MFK faction has requested a Parliament meeting to discuss how to reduce the number of eligible voters who do not receive a voting card. The faction points to the last elections where several citizens did not receive their ballot papers at home.

Members of Parliament have written a letter about this to the Minister of Governance, Planning, and Public Service (BPD), Ornelio 'Kid' Martina (PNP). "It often concerns citizens whose addresses have changed, with street names added in various neighborhoods and addresses removed that were previously registered as 'Lot, Next to, Near, z/n, or District with number,'" said MFK.

"The reality is that no new street names have been assigned to neighborhoods in the past three years, nor have there been changes to street names. Nevertheless, there are citizens who cannot update their address in the population register.

There are also cases of illegal construction, preventing the owner from officially registering in the population register because there is no official address accepted by the population register. Additionally, there are tenants who cannot register at an address because it is not accepted, or because the owner lives abroad."

The MFK faction emphasizes that both the Minister of BPD and the Minister of Traffic, Transport, and Spatial Planning (WRP) are involved in this matter. Therefore, the applicants not only want to invite Martina but also Charles Cooper (MFK) to discuss how this issue is being addressed.

With the meeting, the MFK faction hopes to take concrete steps to ensure that all eligible voters receive their voting cards on time and can cast their votes without problems. According to them, this is crucial for ensuring a fair and accessible electoral process. Further details and the date of the meeting will be announced soon.
