MFK Parliamentarian Maria Nita advocates for workplace reporting system in private sector

WILLEMSTAD - Maria Nita, a parliamentarian from the MFK, is calling for the establishment of a reporting system for employees in the private sector who are experiencing oppression and psychological abuse at work. She has addressed this proposal in a letter to the Minister of Social Development, Labor, and Welfare (SOAW).

Nita points to a lack of information and insufficient government inspection as key issues. She notes that employees may fear retaliation or losing their jobs if they report problems. “Due to the economic situation, many employees have limited choices and are forced to work under unfavorable conditions,” Nita states.

The parliamentarian highlights that many private sector employees feel abandoned due to the absence of a reliable place to file complaints. While trade unions are supposed to support workers, she observes that union membership is often discouraged in many workplaces. Nita believes that the SOAW ministry has a role to play in better protecting workers' rights.

A reporting system could also aid in collecting information and data for further investigation into labor abuses. Nita wants to explore whether there are options for employees to seek assistance in cases of injustice or exploitation at work.
