WILLEMSTAD – A documentary about Curaçao's historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup should premiere at the Curaçao International Film Festival (CIFF) and later become part of educational resources in local schools, according to MFK Member of Parliament Ishahier Monte.
Monte outlined the proposal in a series of parliamentary questions submitted under Article 96 of Parliament's Rules of Procedure.
He argues that CIFF would provide the ideal platform for the documentary's official debut because of its international reputation and focus on Caribbean and Latin American productions.
According to Monte, premiering the film at the festival would give Curaçao's World Cup story international exposure while presenting the country's sporting achievement in a professional and culturally significant setting.
The parliamentarian is also asking the government whether it would support partnerships with CIFF and other audiovisual and cultural institutions to strengthen the quality and international visibility of the project.
Beyond the festival, Monte proposes making the documentary available as an educational resource in Curaçao's schools.
He says the film could help students learn about the nation's history while promoting values such as teamwork, resilience, leadership, discipline and national identity.
Monte further recommends that the government adopt a multidisciplinary approach by involving local and international historians, documentary filmmakers, cultural heritage specialists and audiovisual professionals to ensure the project meets high production standards and has lasting educational value.
The parliamentarian has requested written responses from the government to all seven of his questions regarding the preservation and promotion of what he describes as one of the most significant moments in Curaçao's sporting history.
