WILLEMSTAD - Members of Parliament have expressed their dissatisfaction with the way the budget is being addressed. On Monday, Parliament commenced discussions on next year's financial plans, but there is room for improvement in efficiency.
The crux of the matter lies in the meeting structure. Currently, meetings are organized to allow for the initial posing of technical questions, primarily related to numerical figures. Policy questions, which define the concrete outcomes of specific plans, are only permitted during a meeting in December.
Rennox Calmes, a Member of Parliament for TPK, believes that figures alone convey little about the facts, potentially creating a distorted picture. This sentiment was echoed by Quincy Girigori (PAR), who asserts that behind every number lies a certain policy, making the two inseparable.
Whether there will be an actual change in the meeting structure to address the political budget is currently unknown.
