Member of Parliament raises concerns over delay in finalizing curaçao's national emblem

Local | By Correspondent April 12, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Member of Parliament Steven Croes from the PAR party has voiced his concerns regarding the prolonged delay in finalizing the status of Curaçao's National Emblem. Croes revealed that he initially reached out to the Minister of Education and Culture, Cithree van Heydoorn, on June 29, 2023, seeking clarification on this matter. However, despite his efforts, Croes never received a response from the Minister.

Due to the lack of communication, Croes took the initiative to send a follow-up letter to Minister Van Heydoorn, reiterating the urgency of addressing this issue for the benefit of the people of Curaçao. Croes emphasized that resolving the status of the National Emblem is not only essential for the identity of Curaçao but also crucial to conclude a process that has likely incurred significant expenses.

Croes has posed several pressing questions to Minister Van Heydoorn, urging prompt answers:

Croes has requested that Parliament be provided with a copy of the investigation conducted by the SOAB accounting office regarding this matter.

He seeks clarification on the current status of Curaçao's National Emblem.

Croes questions why the Curaçao government has not yet finalized the emblem's status, especially considering that a winner was selected on October 10, 2022, more than a year and a half ago.

He inquires about the official conclusion of the process and when the Curaçao government plans to start using the new emblem.

Finally, Croes seeks transparency regarding the total cost incurred during the entire process of determining Curaçao's national emblem.

Croes emphasizes the importance of transparency and accountability in governmental processes, especially concerning matters as significant as the National Emblem, which holds great symbolic value for the people of Curaçao.
