Meeting organized to address heat issues in ABC buses

Local | By Correspondent August 21, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The UG-TK/Cadmu union is organizing a general members' meeting this coming Friday for the staff of Autobusbedrijf Curaçao (ABC). During this meeting, the union will discuss with its members the ongoing problems caused by extreme heat in the ABC buses.

UGTK/Cadmu President Wendel Muelen plans to hear from members about the current working conditions and explore potential solutions to improve the situation.

Both drivers and passengers are experiencing severe discomfort due to the high temperatures inside the vehicles. Only seven out of approximately 30 ABC buses are equipped with air conditioning. “This situation is no longer sustainable,” says Muelen.

This is not the first time UGTK/Cadmu has raised concerns about the heat issue in ABC buses. The union voiced similar complaints as early as September of last year, which led to a meeting with the company management. Despite the issue persisting for years, the complaints have become more frequent due to increasingly extreme temperatures in recent years.
