Meeting of the Maritime Consultation Platform (MOP) and signing of the corrective action plan

WILLEMSTAD - On April 15th, the Maritime Consultation Platform (MOP) Meeting took place in Bonaire. Representatives from maritime authorities of the Netherlands, the BES islands, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten gathered to discuss important issues affecting regional navigation and maritime safety. 

The maritime sector and the aviation sector in Curaçao provide job opportunities for mothers and fathers in various forms, such as the Curaçao Maritime Authority, harbor master and his team, workers in the entire harbor area, the Curaçao Aviation Authority, air traffic controllers, airport personnel, and more. These types of meetings are important to ensure the safety of both workers and users. Additionally, this sector makes a significant contribution to our economy. 

Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas is in Bonaire to attend the ministerial meeting. The Prime Minister acts as the representative of the Minister of Traffic, Transportation, and Urban Planning, Charles Cooper. 

The next MOP meeting is scheduled for June 25, 2024. Additionally, a working visit is expected at the end of September 2024, and additional virtual meetings in November 2024. 

Ministers from Aruba, Curaçao, and the Netherlands are meeting in Bonaire to discuss issues related to maritime and aviation traffic safety. Throughout the week, experts are gathering to finalize the corrective action plan to submit it to the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This plan will be elaborated to come up with a more detailed plan with a structured approach to fulfill international aviation and maritime safety obligations.
