WILLEMSTAD - Supermarkets are taking measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. This after consultation with the government and medical professionals. It is striking that a maximum of 2 pieces per customer has been set for the sale of, for example, hand sanitizer and soap.
The government, together with the supermarket branch, is also calling for no shopping with children.
These measures are further announced in a press release:
• Sanitizer and wipes must be present at the entrance (and other central locations).
• Shopping carts should be cleaned daily with sanitizer and / or chlorine (not antibacterial), and then allowed to dry (spray and dry).
• The number of people in the elevator must be limited.
• Social distancing publications and videos are shown in supermarkets.
• Regulating supply is a necessity in busy times based on the average number of people per aisle, based on the space in the supermarket. A maximum of 2 people per family can be in a supermarket at the same time.
• The supermarket uses strips, such as colored adhesive tape, for social distancing at the checkout and in aisles and counters.
• The possible application of plexiglass at cash registers can in any case create a psychological barrier, while still maintaining contact with the customer.
• At the supermarkets, employees are trained to keep their distance and to wash their hands, etc. The distance between employees is also emphasized.
• Essential items such as hand sanitizer and soap are only sold 2 pieces per customers. Attention is paid to both the cash register and possibly by setting the cash register system.
Furthermore, supermarket owners give the following suggestions to their customers:
• Do not bring your children.
• Have a shopping list ready which makes your time at the supermarket shorter.
• The supermarket is currently NOT the place to socialize.
