Mc William Pushes for Debate on Youth Minimum Wage Proposal

Local | By Correspondent February 11, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – Member of Parliament Giselle Mc William (MAN) is calling for the youth minimum wage proposal to be formally discussed in Parliament.

The proposal, an initiative of the MAN faction, aims to ensure that young workers aged 18, 19, and 20 receive the full minimum wage instead of a reduced percentage.

Parliament Chair Charetti America-Francisca (MFK) emphasized that scheduling legislation depends on sufficient support within Parliament, urging Mc William to be patient. However, Mc William insists that the matter is urgent due to the rising cost of living affecting young workers.

The bill was initially debated in May last year in the Central Committee and was revisited in December with representatives of employers and employees. The Parliament Chair has confirmed that the proposal will be scheduled for discussion soon.
