WILLEMSTAD - On Saturday, May 4th, Curaçao will commemorate, during a solemn ceremony at the war monument "Monument der Gevallenen" at Waaigat, those who lost their lives in World War II.

On this day, respect is also paid to all military personnel and civilians who lost their lives during wartime, missions of international organizations, or due to acts of terrorists.
The ceremony at the War Monument at Waaigat begins at 9:00 a.m. The second phase, at the Military Parade on Roodeweg, begins at 10:30 a.m. Everyone interested is invited to attend.
The government considers ceremonies commemorating war victims very important. This is because the hardships and sorrows caused by World War II led to an international decision: no one should ever miss the 'Right to Justice.' To morally and legally support this, human values have been expressed in words and enshrined in fundamental human rights.
The government of Curaçao, the Royal Navy, the Police, VKC, the Militia of Curaçao, Scouting Antiano, the Safety Brigade, SMEC, KPC, the Jewish community, veterans, and families of those who lost their lives during World War II come together every year to commemorate this event.
