WILLEMSTAD – A large fire that broke out Monday evening at an illegal storage facility near Ronde Klip is causing significant smoke nuisance in surrounding residential areas, according to the Curaçao Fire Department. Firefighters were alerted around 7:30 PM and have been actively working to contain the blaze since.
The fire is burning on difficult-to-access terrain, which is complicating firefighting efforts. Nevertheless, emergency services continue to intensively combat the fire to prevent it from spreading and to bring the situation under control.
The heavy smoke is affecting nearby neighborhoods, and authorities warn that households in the area may experience considerable discomfort. Individuals with respiratory conditions are especially at risk due to the poor air quality.
Residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed, avoid strenuous physical activity, and stay indoors as much as possible. Those experiencing breathing difficulties are urged to seek shelter elsewhere temporarily.
The fire department is asking the public to stay updated via official communication channels, stressing that they are doing everything possible to prevent further escalation. They also call for the community’s understanding and cooperation during this emergency response.
