WILLEMSTAD - The Marshe Nobo in Punda is going to be renovated. After a tender process, the contracts were signed yesterday, allowing the contractor to get to work.
In the first phase of the project, the roof will be repaired, and then the floor. Concrete rot in certain parts of the building, sewerage and electricity will also be tackled.
In addition, the building will be modernized and aesthetically improved, making it look cleaner, more beautiful and more attractive, the Ministry of Economic Development promises. The refurbishment of the interior of the building will be carried out in phase two.
Interior design plan
The renovation is part of the Inner City Market Buildings and Areas Development Plan, in which the Curaçao government aims to equip and maintain all market buildings in the city center to strengthen the city center of Willemstad and encourage more activities and investments in Punda and to stimulate Otrobanda.
Some time ago renovation work was already carried out on the building of the Plasa Bieu (old market) and now it is time for the Marche Nobo.
The renovation paves the way for the round market to develop into a combination of a modern market, a selection of restaurants and a rooftop terrace overlooking the city center. It has not been announced when the maintenance and renovation of Marshe Nobo will be completed.
