Marine Youth Rangers lead cleanup campaign in Piscadera Bay

Local | By Correspondent March 12, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The youth of the Marine Youth Rangers, along with volunteers and park rangers from the Curacao Reef Mangrove Park and Curacao Marine Park, conducted a cleanup campaign at Piscadera Bay. This was reported by Carmabi.

Using kayaks and a boat from the Marine Park Curaçao, a total of 270 kilograms of waste was collected along the Jack Evertzberg side. The Marine Youth Rangers gather twice a month to enhance their knowledge of the coast and sea through various activities, with this cleanup being an example, according to Carmabi.

The youth primarily encountered (floating) plastic, which poses a danger to marine animals. "This can be perceived as food by them, leading to choking or entanglement," stated Carmabi.

Through these initiatives, Carmabi aims to raise awareness among the next generation and underscore the importance of cleanup efforts in the fight against environmental pollution.
