WILLEMSTAD - In a series of dismissals at the national television station TeleCuraçao, it has been revealed that General Manager Hugo Lew Yen Tai, along with two colleagues, unexpectedly lost their jobs. Terrence 'Terry' Hernandez, the director of the channel, also received notification that his contract will not be renewed.
Over the past few days, TeleCuraçao, officially known as the Antillean Television Company (ATM), has announced several dismissals. This drastic measure was taken following an internal investigation into good governance within the TV station.
The main figures in this dismissal drama are Lew Yen Tai, Laureano Salazar, and Zhurny Pieter. Based on the conducted investigation by Forensic Caribbean, which reportedly took several months, the decision was made to terminate their employment immediately.
They were given only four days to respond to a forty-page report. Their lawyer had indicated the need for two weeks to review the report, but nevertheless, they were dismissed on Sunday via an email from Hernandez citing urgent reasons.
Hernandez is the director of the government-owned company Curaçao Data & Television nv and a board member of ATM. Despite his one-year appointment in July 2022, he also received his dismissal on Monday.
