WILLEMSTAD - Rauf Engels was sworn in on Friday December 9 by the President of the Court of Justice, Mauritsz de Kort. As a new member of the Management Board of the Common Court of Justice, Engels will, among other things, supervise the operations of the Court. With Engels sworn in, the council is complete again.

Other members of the Management Board and Minister of Justice Shalton Hato were also present at the swearing-in ceremony of Engels. The Management Board is part of the organization of the Court and, in addition to the role of the formal employer of the court officials, also has the task of supervising the management and compliance with the annual plans.

In addition, the council also consults and negotiates the budget and deals with the Court's financial management. The Management Board has four members, one member per country over which the Court rules. These are Aruba, the Netherlands, Curaçao and Sint Maarten. The BES islands fall under the Netherlands.

Engels will succeed Franklin Hanze. According to the Court of Appeal, Hanze's period ended at the end of last year. New members are royally appointed for a period of five years, but this can be extended, according to the Court. With the appointment of Engels, the Management Board is once again complete.
