MAN-PIN Submits Legislative Proposal to Link AOV Pensions to Cost of Living Increases

WILLEMSTAD – The MAN-PIN faction in Parliament has officially submitted a legislative initiative that seeks to adjust the General Old Age Pension (AOV), as well as widow and orphan pensions, in line with the cost of living on the island. The proposal aims to safeguard the purchasing power of pensioners by tying pension increases directly to the consumer price index (CPI).

According to MAN-PIN, the current system—introduced in 2013—links pension increases to real economic growth. However, this approach has not yielded tangible benefits for the majority of retirees, especially those who rely solely on AOV benefits. The faction argues that the current mechanism fails to provide sufficient protection against inflation and rising living costs.

The legislative initiative reflects a key promise in MAN-PIN's action plan presented during the most recent election cycle, which emphasized structural and sustainable improvements to the quality of life for the people of Curaçao.

With the proposal now submitted, it will first undergo evaluation by the Social and Economic Council (SER) and the Council of Advice. Once these reviews are complete, the proposal will be brought before Parliament for debate and potential approval.

Despite being in the opposition, MAN-PIN says it remains committed to advocating for policies that uplift the well-being of the Curaçaoan people. “This is our contribution as a parliamentary faction to improving the lives of our senior citizens,” the party stated.
