WILLEMSTAD – The opposition party MAN-PIN has taken a proactive stance in the Parliament of Curaçao, submitting several legislative proposals and motions aimed at addressing pressing socioeconomic challenges. During a press conference on Wednesday, the party shared an overview of its work in Parliament since officially entering the legislature in May 2025.
One of the party’s key initiatives is a legislative proposal to legally link social welfare payments to inflation, ensuring that the amounts are automatically adjusted annually in line with the cost of living. MAN-PIN also advocates for indexing the AOV pension system based on living expenses rather than economic growth figures.
In addition to those measures, the party has:
Submitted formal inquiries on the availability of new ambulances;
Proposed amendments to include paid paternity leave;
Called for urgent action on high property taxes (OZB);
Urged updates to the outdated 2000 Labor Regulation;
Pushed for swift implementation of the approved youth minimum wage.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Gilmar ‘Pik’ Pisas (MFK), MAN-PIN also demanded clarity regarding alleged misconduct at the Curaçaohuis in The Hague, raising concerns about intimidation and unexplained expenditures.
On the international front, the party voiced its position on the conflict in Gaza, urging the Curaçao government to take a clear stand against the ongoing violence by speaking out within the Kingdom Council of Ministers.
Through these proposals, MAN-PIN says it aims to contribute to more equitable policies and enhanced social security for vulnerable groups. The party reaffirmed its commitment to active parliamentary engagement and maintaining close dialogue with the people of Curaçao.
