WILLEMSTAD - The political party MAN-PIN on Curaçao has issued a comprehensive response to the recent developments in Venezuela, expressing great concern and political sensitivity regarding the situation that has emerged following the elections on July 28th.
Venezuela holds significant familial, historical, cultural, and socio-economic importance for Curaçao. MAN-PIN highlighted the impact of European and American sanctions on Venezuela as one of the reasons for the cessation of oil refining on the island.
"The effects on our labor market, housing situation, public healthcare expenditures, and the costs associated with immigration and justice sectors are evident due to the large number of undocumented individuals fleeing the poor economic situation in Venezuela," a party representative said.
As a neighboring country, MAN-PIN believes that Curaçao must remain a zone of peace and continue to monitor developments closely.
In light of this, MAN-PIN urges the government of Curaçao (Cabinet Pisas) to advocate within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and directly with Venezuela to ensure peace in the country. They call for an independent audit of the election results with international support, alongside guarantees for human rights and civil peace in Venezuela.
MAN-PIN emphasizes the importance of these actions based on the deep familial, historical, and cultural ties with Venezuela. They note the coexistence with the Venezuelan population in both Venezuela and Curaçao, which is part of the local community and longs for peace and calm in their country.
Finally, MAN-PIN asserts that it is crucial for the government of Curaçao, as an autonomous entity, to clearly express its stance on the urgent situation in Venezuela.
