MAN party urges Finance Minister Silvania to prioritize responsible financial management

Local | By Correspondent October 28, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The opposition MAN party in the Curaçao parliament has called on Finance Minister Javier Silvania to prioritize sound financial management and tighter expenditure controls. The party argues that Silvania is focusing too heavily on spending public funds to gain public support and votes, which it views as undermining fiscal discipline. MAN also urged the minister to expedite the proposal for a dedicated "budget office" to enhance fiscal oversight and transparency, requesting a parliamentary session to discuss this measure.

The party’s stance comes in response to a critical report from the evaluation committee on the Kingdom Law for Financial Supervision, which highlighted Curaçao’s failure to meet sustainable financial management and budget discipline standards. MAN emphasized that this assessment underscores the need for Silvania to take immediate action and address these concerns to improve Curaçao’s financial governance.

MAN’s call aligns with ongoing scrutiny of Curaçao’s financial policies and underscores the importance of establishing stricter mechanisms for budget control to ensure long-term financial stability.
