WILLEMSTAD - Giselle Mc William, the faction leader of MAN, is advocating for the digitization of the voting process in Curaçao. She made this call during a public parliamentary meeting focused on preparations for the 2025 elections, which was requested by the MFK faction.
According to Mc William, citizens should no longer rely on postal services, Kranshi, the ministry, or post offices to receive their voting cards. “We need to start digitizing the voting card. Through an online portal, citizens can register themselves and receive a QR code that serves as their voting card. At the polling station, this code can be scanned, and the voter will then present their identification for verification,” Mc William explained.
She acknowledged that many people still lack access to the internet or digital tools, “but we have to start somewhere so that there is a more digitized process for obtaining the voting card in the next election.” She also inquired about the possibilities of mobile polling stations for hospitals, prisons, and nursing homes.
Additionally, Mc William questioned whether the Electoral Council (KSE) should adopt a more flexible approach to the voting process, allowing voters to cast their ballots at any polling station rather than being tied to a specific one. In her view, it should be possible to vote at any location. Finally, she urged the KSE to conduct demonstrations in neighborhoods, schools, prisons, and nursing homes on how to vote, so that everyone becomes familiar with the process and the number of invalid votes decreases.
