WILLEMSTAD - A 28-year-old man was arrested Sunday night in Noord Zapateer after threatening his neighbors with a machete. Police received an emergency call about a heated dispute and arrived at the scene at approximately 11:15 p.m., where they found the man holding the large blade while shouting threats at nearby residents.
Earlier in the evening, the suspect had already clashed with his neighbors and, in a fit of anger, went through the area cutting down all the plants he encountered, causing significant damage and alarming the community.
The man, a Curaçao-born resident, was detained without further incident and taken before a assistant public prosecutor. Authorities have determined that he will remain in custody pending further investigation.
Police emphasize that threatening behavior involving weapons poses a serious danger to the public and will be met with immediate action. The investigation into the motive and circumstances surrounding the confrontation is ongoing.
