WILLEMSTAD - A major theft took place early yesterday morning at the OMNI electronics branch on F.D. Rooseveltweg. Police received a report of a break-in at around 03:47 a.m., after unknown suspects forced open a container on the property using a grinding tool.
When officers arrived at the scene, several televisions had already been moved outside and were positioned for transport. Inside a van found on the premises, police discovered two additional TVs believed to have been prepared by the suspects. A small cart used by the intruders to reach and open the container was also recovered.
According to employees, the perpetrators initially arrived with two vans, loaded them with stolen televisions, and left the scene. Moments later, they returned for a second attempt—this time interrupted when two OMNI staff members unexpectedly encountered them. The suspects fled, abandoning one of the vehicles in their escape.
Investigation Underway
The technical and tactical investigation units have launched a full inquiry into the incident. Police are currently reviewing evidence and examining the abandoned van for leads.
Authorities are urging the community to remain vigilant and avoid purchasing televisions or other electronics offered at unusually low prices. Buying stolen goods constitutes the crime of heling (handling stolen property), and individuals caught doing so may face prosecution.
Information Needed
Anyone with information about the break-in, or who notices individuals attempting to sell new televisions under suspicious circumstances, is asked to contact police at 917 or the emergency line 108.
Police emphasize that community cooperation is essential for identifying the suspects and retrieving the stolen merchandise.
