Maintaining commitment to the environment the only responsible decision

Local | By Press release January 22, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Maintaining the commitment to the international standards including the Paris Accord emission goals and WHO pollution standards is crucial for environmental sustainability and global well-beingSacrificing these targets and commitments for short-term economic gains, such as those from refining industries, poses significant long-term risks.

Climate change remains a pressing global issue, and adherence to emission reduction goals outlined in the Paris Accord is essential to mitigate its adverse effects. Failing to meet these targets could lead to severe consequences, including rising sea levels, extreme weather events and ecological imbalances.

Prioritizing economic gains over environmental responsibility can harm the nation’s international standingIn this interconnected world, countries are increasingly evaluated based on their commitment to sustainable practicesA reputation for environmental negligence may result in trade restrictions, strained diplomatic relations and exclusion from collaborative global initiatives.

Investing in clean energy alternative and eco-friendly technologies can stimulate economic growth while aligning with emission reduction goalsThe long-term benefits of a sustainable and resilient economy far outweigh the immediate gains from industries contributing to environmental degradation.   Postponing and kicking the can down the road are no longer viable options.

The country has already a history of putting off ecological preservation at the expense of the health of the people and the environment. By deviating from its commitment to the Paris Accord and to immediate actions to safeguard our planet for future generations,  the country jeopardizes not only the environment but also the nation’s global and economic sustainability.
