WILLEMSTAD - There is something wrong with the performance of Curacao students at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. This is according to the Minister of Education Marilyn Alcalá-Wallé in response to statements from Stichting Studiefinanciering Curacao, SSC, the Curaçao Student Loans Foundation.
Students from Curacao would not be less successful than other students at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.
Juliette Chirino-Mendez, head of customer contact at SSC, said that not only Curacao students achieve low results in the propaedeutic year, but that this is also the case with students of European-Dutch origin.
Alcalá-Wallé says that the culture shock of studying in another country and poor language proficiency bring down the results of students. Not only at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, but also at other schools.
