Local Artist to Design Permanent Tribute to Outgoing Governor Lucille George-Wout

WILLEMSTAD - A local artist will design a permanent artwork in honor of outgoing Governor Lucille George-Wout, to be placed in downtown Willemstad. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas during a farewell dinner held last Friday at The Cathedral of Thorns.

The tribute will symbolize the Governor’s twelve years of service, reflecting her connection with the Council of Ministers, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and especially the people of Curaçao.

Governor George-Wout has now concluded her twelve-year term, marking the end of a remarkable period of leadership. During his remarks at the dinner, Prime Minister Pisas praised her as “courageous, dedicated, and always seeking connection.”

He emphasized that she carried out her three core duties—to inform, advise, and warn—with great seriousness and integrity, noting that her discretion, participation, and strong sense of responsibility have left a lasting impression on the government. Pisas described her as a beacon of stability and wisdom whose leadership will be deeply missed.

The location of the artwork is still being determined but will be placed in a prominent and symbolic site in the heart of the capital, serving as a lasting reminder of Governor George-Wout’s service and connection to Curaçao’s people.
