Limestone Resort demolished, ending long-standing dispute

Local | By Correspondent July 14, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The iconic Limestone Holiday Resort has met its end as it was demolished recently. The well-known hotel complex situated on the scenic inland waters of Brakkeput was completely leveled following the directives of the Johannes Bosco Foundation. This significant development brings an end to a protracted conflict between the resort owners and the foundation, which holds ownership of the land on which the resort stood.

The Johannes Bosco Foundation strictly prohibits commercial activities on its premises, leading to an ongoing disagreement with the resort's stakeholders. The resort's founder, Roel Jungslager, sadly passed away in 2017, and since then, his heirs have been engaged in a legal battle with the foundation over the property. In 2021, the court ruled in favor of the Johannes Bosco Foundation, settling the dispute.

Now, two years later, the Limestone Resort has been razed to the ground, symbolizing the final chapter in the contentious history of the site. The demolition was carried out swiftly, with the complex succumbing to the force of the wrecking ball.

The Limestone Resort held a special place in the hearts of many, offering unforgettable experiences to its guests for years. Its demise marks the end of an era, leaving behind memories of cherished moments spent within its walls. The vacant space where the resort once stood now serves as a somber reminder of the conflicts that can arise between private ownership and the strict regulations governing land use.
