Let's nominate, because they deserve a royal decoration

Local | By Press release September 5, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - On the first day of August, two new members were appointed to the Royal Decoration Commission. Mrs. Lusette Verboom was appointed as the president of the commission, and Mr. Eithel Hato was also appointed to the commission. Every year, a group in our community receives high-ranking recognition, which is a Royal Decoration. The goal of the Royal Decoration Commission is to oversee the nomination process for candidates.

Lusette Verboom

Currently, the Royal Decoration Commission consists of Mrs. Lusette Verboom, Mr. Trevor Bakhuis, Mrs. Maria Liberia Peters, Mr. Eithel Hato, and Mrs. Marisol Roosberg. This is an opportunity to express gratitude to Mr. O'dennis Daal, who served as president for the past two years, and wish him every success.

The opportunity to nominate someone is open until the second week of September, and the community is encouraged to nominate individuals who have, in one way or another, volunteered to advance our society. You can nominate citizens who have made an exceptional contribution for at least 10 to 15 years, either as volunteers or citizens who have made an extraordinary contribution beyond their work. There are different categories of Royal Decorations. The two most common categories in Curaçao are the Order of Orange-Nassau and the Order of the Dutch Lion. Within these categories, there are ranks such as Member, Knight, Officer, and more. Based on the exceptional and extraordinary contributions of the person, they receive a decoration as a member or knight, which are the most commonly awarded titles in Curaçao.

To receive a Royal Decoration, a person must have contributed exceptionally to our community. This contribution can be through their efforts for the well-being of youth, adults, or our elderly. The individual must have volunteered, without payment or salary, for a period of at least 15 years and dedicated several hours each week to this. Also, a person who has made an exceptional contribution or excelled in sports, education, or science in Curaçao may be eligible for a Royal Decoration.

You can nominate a candidate and contribute to someone receiving the recognition they deserve at the level of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. To nominate your candidate, you can visit the government website at gobiernu.cw/kondekorashonreal, download and fill out the form, and submit your request at the Information Window in Saliña. Along with the form, you'll need to submit some important documents. In addition to the candidate's contact information, you should provide information about the candidate's volunteer work and include endorsements from two other individuals.
