Less waste found after Fuikdag

Local | By Correspondent January 10, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Following Fuikdag on Sunday, January 7, volunteers from Curaçao Clean Up cleaned the beaches of Fuik early yesterday. This is an annual tradition. To their surprise, the volunteers noted that this year there was less waste left behind than in previous years. The beach was quickly cleaned within a short period.

The volunteers from Curaçao Clean Up complimented the participants of Fuikdag 2024 for leaving less waste behind. They also observed that considerably fewer inflatable objects and floaties were left in the water. On the beach, they found a few bags full of waste, and among the mangrove forests, there were many bottles and cans.

On Saturday, the volunteers from Curaçao Clean Up will return, this time accompanied by a group of divers to clean up the waste in the sea and on the other side of the beach, where debris may have washed ashore.
