WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao will not introduce a system of 'hire and fire', whereby employers can easily hire and fire employees. According to Minister of Social Development, Labor and Welfare Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia, such a system does not fit in a small community.
The rights of employees must continue to be protected, according to the minister. She is thus responding to calls from the Chamber of Commerce and the Curaçao Business Association, which have recently called for flexibility and amendment of the dismissal laws.
On the other hand, Larmonie-Cecilia does want to work more on introducing part-time jobs. That is not often possible on the island. That way, she says, more people can get a job.
